Commitment and Providence

-15 days to departure

"Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative (and creation), there is one elementary truth that ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans: that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision, raising in one's favor all manner of unforeseen incidents and meetings and material assistance, which no man could have dreamed would have come his way. Whatever you can do, or dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it. Begin it now." - William Hutchison Murray

Such a provident meeting occurred today when Tim and I spent some two hours meeting with and learning from Reverend Alfreddie Johnson. The reverend has spearheaded human rights and literacy initiatives in areas across the globe, working tirelessly to bring progress to the oppressed, advantage to the disadvantaged and power to the powerless. His insights and counsel will serve us very well in Liberia.

In Thursday's post, I delineated a host of difficulties to overcome as we plan, prepare for and execute this expedition. However, I failed to mention one of the biggest challenges we face: funding. You see, this entire venture is being funded through donations. We are spreading the word far and wide, appealing to the hearts (and wallets) of our friends and friends of friends. We need support and you can (and should) lend a hand through our GoFundMe site which you can reach here with just one click.

By the way, four posts into this blog and I have yet to introduce myself properly. My name is Colin Taufer. I am the headmaster of Delphi Academy of Florida. I've been an educator at Delphi Florida since 1992, a teacher for the first ten years, headmaster ever since. Along with Tim, we represent two of the three collaborators on this project.
