Twenty-six Hours of Travel

Day of Travel

I am writing this from the Shake Shack restaurant next to gate B37 at JFK Airport. Just finished a very tasty meal of burger, fries and mango lemonade. (Foodies say Shake Shack is comparable to Five Guys and In and Out Burger.)

Here is our flight plan for the next 24 hours or so. We arrive in Monrovia on Monday at 2:05 pm local time, 9:05 Eastern Standard Time.

To kill our time in the airport, Xane and I have been searching for the longest flight out of JFK. We've talked to a number of attendants at different gates. And so far, the longest flights are to Johannesburg, Tokyo, China and Dubai. Their answers were uncertain, but we think the longest one is Dubai clocking in at 16 hours of uninterrupted flight time. (We had to verify the numbers because some of the clerks were uncertain. The "clerks" at the China desk, for example, turned out to be a bowl-cut boy and braces-wearing girl who were having lunch and looked like uninformed uniformed janitors.)

Finally, since I've been typing this I received the following email from my good friend (who I have yet to meet face to face) Jay in Liberia.

Safe travels guys. Looking forward to welcoming you both to Africa and Liberia.

It's certainly not LA or FL, but with open mind am sure you will embrace the cultural and traditions of our great soil.

Until tomorrow...
